Anna got up from her desk, stretching her arms before walking into the kitchen. She took a bite of the sandwich made b her husband earlier, and sat down in front of her computer and opened her mailbox.
" Dear Anna, Hope everything is well,
I know it's been two years since we last spoke, I am sorry for what I said last time, but I felt compelled to reach out. Something big is about to happen in the next few days. I can't go into detail yet, but I wanted you to be prepared. Trust me when I say, you won't want to be caught unaware.
I’m on their list now, and so is another lady called Amelia. This is bigger than I thought, and I fear I may have already crossed a line I can’t undo. If you don't hear from me again soon, please make sure to destroy your copy of the manuscript for the book we were working on two years ago.
Stay safe.
Julian Marlowe"
Anna stared at this email Julian had sent her one and a half weeks ago for the seventh time this week, the words echoing in her mind. “I’m on their list now...” The weight settled heavily on her chest. She hadn’t fully understood it at the time, but now, hearing that Julian is dead and the lady called Amelia has been missing for a week, everything felt different.
A sense of curiosity began to rise within her. What had Julian gotten himself involved in? Anna couldn't shake the feeling that there was something crucial she was missing, something important that tied Julian's death to the mystery of the manuscript. She couldn’t let this go.
And then there was the million-pound offer from Mr. Lay. While the money alone was enough to tempt anyone, Anna cares much more than just money. She wants to find the truth behind everything.
As she sat there, her finger hovering over the phone, Anna made her decision. She would help them find Amelia first. The pieces of the puzzle were too important to ignore, and the stakes were higher than she had ever imagined. She dialed Mr. Lay’s number.
